TORRANCE, CA - January 26, 1999 - LEDtronics® announces White LEDs that produce
the long-sought true-white light. Sunlight-visible, these LEDs are direct
replacements for incandescent lamps in industrial controls, indicators
and other applications where durability and energy-efficiency are an
absolute necessity. At 20mA, emission and color temperature are similar
to a daylight-color
fluorescent lamp and its color-rendering index is similar to a triphosphor
fluorescent (high-grade) lamp.
White LEDs come in true (cool) white,
warm
white and incandescent white. They are available in the following sizes
and base types: S6 Candelabra Screw-Based LED, 5mm Midget Flange LED,
3mm Grain-of-Wheat Sub-midget Flange LED, 5mm Wedge-Based LED, T3-1/4
(9mm) Miniature Bayonet-Based LED, and T2 Telephone Slide-Based LED.
Marking a milestone for LED technology, LEDtronics® new white LEDs use
only one Indium Gallium Nitride (InGaN) blue chip combined with a phosphorous
coating to generate a true-white colored beam. Previous white LEDs combined
red, blue and green (RGB) LED chips to produce a white-colored light. One-chip
technology results in superior reliability and color integrity.
Each LED has a water-clear lens that enables a high-intensity light to emit.
LEDs deliver excellent visibility and color definition while using only
a fraction of the power that an incandescent of similar luminosity requires.
An LED transmits 100% of its energy as color-specific, (e.g., red, amber,
green) light. For an incandescent to produce color, it filters 90% of its
energy so that only light from a specific part of the spectrum is visible.
Additionally, LEDs are solid state making them impervious to shock, vibration,
frequent switching and environmental extremes. Typically, LEDs operate for
100,00 hours (11 years) or more. That’s more than 10 times an incandescent
lamp!
White LED lamps can be supplied in all common indicator voltages from 5V
to 240V, DC or AC. Built-in current-limiting resistors and polarity-protection
diodes assure that no circuit modifications are required. The 120- to 240-volt
model LED may be connected directly to line voltage, eliminating the requirement
for a step-down transformer to supply the low voltage needed by LED lamps.
What’s more, Ledtronics offers seven (ultra red, ultra orange, ultra
amber, ultra yellow, ultra green, ultra blue and ultra white) complementary
sunlight-visible colors.
Industries ranging from avionics to industrial controls to consumer electronics
and medical spectrometric analysis benefit from employing White direct
incandescent replacement LEDs. Use White LEDs for aisle lighting, overhead
reading lights,
elevator panels, industrial controls, architectural lighting, cellular
phones, audio equipment, etc.
The possibilities are endless. LEDtronics® White
LEDs are plug-compatible with such LEDs as #6S6 candelabra based, #387 midget
flange, #85 wedge based, #1819 bayonet based and #120PSB telephone slide.
