Light Emitting Diode (LED) lighting technology is an
excellent accompaniment to photovoltaic-based or other alternatively
sourced energy systems due to its inherent energy efficiency. LED bulbs
use up to 90% less energy then standard lighting sources, enabling
the use of smaller, less expensive solar cells, panels and batteries
than those required by incandescent lighting. Additionally, most of
our solar LED bulbs and products are offered in 12 volts DC versions
so no extra wiring is required, making our LED bulbs direct drop-in
replacement.
Utility-independent systems are often used as emergency
lighting in the event of a power failure or for applications that lack
access to the conventional power grid such as remote cabins and offshore
oil platforms. Reliability is critical for these systems. When called
on, they have to work. And, with an average life span of 100,000-plus
hours (11 years), it’s hard to top the dependability of solid-state
LEDs. Stationary components, solid epoxy lenses and sealed assemblies
render LEDs impervious to electrical and mechanical shock, vibration,
frequent switching and environmental extremes. LEDs operate reliably
year-after-year and are virtually maintenance free.
