 New lighting has been installed
in Elevator No. 1, the elevator at the entrance to the Golden Age
of Flight, Gallery 105.
The new lights are Light Emitting Diodes, LED, at two watts each. The old lamps
were standard incandescent at 20 watts each. There are 35 lights in the elevator.
We have gone from 700 watts of energy to 70 watts of energy. An energy calculation
including lamp replacement costs, operating costs, labor, operating hours, etc.,
determined that NASM and SI could save $21,806.60 per year with a payback of
.08
years.
Elevator No. 1 is a test to see if this new technology will work. Comments, both
complaints and plaudits, are welcome. Please send them to NASM's lighting designer,

The initial cost of the replacement lamps was $1,778.00. This was funded by the
Energy Management Branch, Mr. Himanshu Patel, with the concurrence of NASM's
building
manager, Ms. Kendra Gastright.
