New ultraviolet discrete LEDs have been engineered for use in portable devices
designed for crime scene or forensic investigations, quality assurance, and document
authentication. They also can be used in medical analysis, gems appraisal, pharmaceutical
and biological equipment, and calibration systems.
The units incorporate advanced semiconductor compounds to produce ultraviolet
emissions in the wavelengths of 370, 390, 395, 400, 405, and 410 nm. In addition,
these T13/4 (5 mm) LEDs boast sturdy leads for steadfastness in wire-wrap and
through-hole applications and are available in narrow and wide emission angles.
Other features include low power consumption, solid state design, and compact
size.
Average life span is 100,000-plus hours or 11 years. Prices range from 17 cents
to $2.04 each in quantities of 1,000.
