LEDtronics' Light Leads the Way to Emergency Assistance
03-APR-98

TORRANCE, CA - April 3, 1998 - It is now safer to walk to your car after dark because of a bright blue LED light. New wireless emergency call boxes on university campuses, hospital grounds, parks and large parking lots are easily identified by a bright blue LED lamp on the pole above. These lamps, powered by batteries charged from solar cells, are lit from dusk to dawn, providing a beacon of light in the darkness.

The Ultra-Blue LED lamps maufactured by LEDtronics®, Inc., in Torrance, California, have long been used in emergency situations because they provide durable, long-lasting and cost-efficient lighting. RCS Communications Group approached LEDtronics® to provide lamps for RCS's CALL24™ Wireless Callbox Systems division.

"We needed highly-energy efficient lamps that could be solar-powered and would last an extremely long time," explains Tom Davenport, national sales manager for RCS. LEDtronics®was the only company we found that met our needs."

RCS's call boxes are placed in areas that are remote and unprotected. They are entirely wireless and self-contained units, powered by solar panels and transmitting the calls via two-way radio. According to Davenport, they wanted a light above their box that would be continuously lit throughout the night. They also needed LED panel lights in red and green to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act recommendations for the front panel of the call box. It was vital that the lamps have a long life,as changing them frequently would be cost-prohibitive. In addition, the call boxes are exposed to all types of temperature extremes and weather conditions.

"Because most of the boxes are solar-powered, we needed lamps that use a very small amount of power," continues Davenport. "LEDtronics® LEDs are perfect for our product, as they are extremely energy efficient."

"Developing new products for customers is what we do best. We made modifications to both our standard industry StackLED® lamp and our panel lamps to meet their specifications," states Pervaiz Lodhie, president of LEDtronics®. "We are proud of the close partnership we have with many companies in the development of products to satisfy their needs."
